Ultimate Bucket List for Motorcycle Rides

March 20, 2017

This list of trips is a must-read for motorcyclists looking to take on the open road.

For most of the country, motorcycle riding season seems to go by in a blur. Warm weather is ideal for hitting the open road on a motorcycle and feeling the wind in your face. While any motorcycle cruise is a good one to bikers, some are just better than others once you factor in the scenery, smoother roads, or better places to stop for a break along the way.

You’ll remember the twisting roads and amazing scenery on these bucket list motorcycle rides for the rest of your life!

1) Tail of the Dragon, North Carolina

With names like Gravity Cavity and Wheelie Hell, the curves that are found along the Tail of the Dragon, Deal’s Gap in North Carolina have become world famous among bikers and sports car enthusiasts alike. This 11-mile stretch of motorcycle paradise is said to have 318 different curves!

The best part about this stretch of road might just be that there is no development along its entire length due to its proximity to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. That means you don’t have to worry about unexpected vehicles pulling out in front of you. Just don’t expect to burn much rubber here…the speed limit is 30 miles per hour and there is a high presence of law enforcement.

The Beartooth Highway between Montana and Wyoming is designated both a National Scenic Byway and an All American Road, recommending it as a worthy destination in its own right.

2) Beartooth Highway, Wyoming

Wyoming has some of the most incredible scenery in the United States and the Beartooth Highway lets you go cruising right through it. The route is unforgettable for bikers. You’ll be sure of that when you see just how many fellow bikers you pass or ride with while on the route. There are a lot of ups and downs on this route as it twists and turns its way through scenery ranging from mountains to rivers and even thick forests. There are plenty of pullouts along the road to stop for a break while enjoying the same amazing scenery, and there are a lot of long downhill stretches for easy cruising. Don’t miss this route, and swing by nearby Yellowstone National Park for another memorable motorcycle ride.

3) Needles Highway, South Dakota

You will drive through two separate tunnels blasted through solid granite as you follow the Needles Highway in South Dakota. Those tunnels are just two of the jaw-dropping sites you will see while on this bucket list motorcycle ride.

Needles Highway is a popular route for bikers who are heading to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Don’t be surprised when you find yourself going slower than you usually do as you enjoy the scenery and wildlife along the way.

Narrow road weaves its way through the Tunnel of Trees.

4) Tunnel of Trees, Michigan

As you can probably tell from its name, Tunnel of Trees is a heavily forested route along the shores of Lake Michigan. Located a mere 35 miles from the popular destination of Mackinac Island, this motorcycle ride is perfect to take when the leaves are changing in the fall.

Even if you can’t make it to any of your bucket list motorcycle rides this year, don’t even worry. Just hop on Roadtrippers (or grab a map if you want to go old school), find an area close to home with some curvy roads, make you own memorable route, and check out KOA to plan your stays along the way!

As long as you are riding than what is there to complain about?! Stay safe as you enjoy the roads this summer, and prepare for an awesome ride!
