Follow The Yellow KOA Bobsled Up to the Olympics

This winter, there’s been a flash of yellow traveling at nearly 100 mph down mountains all over the world. The yellow KOA logo has been having quite a ride on the USA Men’s two-man bobsled.

Kampgrounds of America is a major official sponsor of the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Team, which will be headed to the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia in February. The KOA logo will grace the front of the two-man bobsled at all competitions leading up to the main event.

The USA Men’s Team swept the medal stand December 14 at the World Cup Race in Lake Placid, NY. The KOA sled got the bronze medal.

The driver of the KOA sled is Cory Butner and his brakeman is Chuck Berkeley, both Californians who are thrilled to climb aboard Sled KOA.

“There is no way we could do what we do without the support of KOA, its owners and its campers,” Butner said. “And we’re so proud to be able to ride in the KOA sled. It’s pretty noticeable when we get that bright yellow sled into the starting gate.”

Butner was first selected for the USA Bobsled team as a pusher in 2007. From the back of the sled, he won the 2009 National Championship title. He decided to move to the driver’s position in 2010, and quickly became one of the nation’s top bobsled pilots.

Berkeley also started bobsledding in 2007. He joined the World Cup team in his first season, and placed 16th at the World Championships in a two-man sled with driver John Napier. He competed in the 2014 Olympics with Napier. This year, he joined Butner and helped push the KOA sled to a silver medal in their first World Cup competition.
