Our Best Day of Camping: The Vidrines

March 22, 2011

My family is new to camping in a trailer. We decided to stay at the Lafayette KOA in Scott, LA for our spring break. Our schedule was packed with museums and activities for the kids. We were gone from breakfast to supper. We really liked the park, but felt we didn’t get to experience all it had to offer.

When planning our next trip, which was during the 4th of July weekend, we knew we wanted to go back to Lafayette KOA. We decided that on this trip we would just stay at the park. We didn’t plan any activities outside of the KOA. We were not disappointed!

We found out that there would be a camp site decorating contest. We arrived prepared with flags, stars, stripes, and anything red, white, and blue that we could get our hands on. Our family worked hard to show our American pride and spirit.

We were also excited to find out that there would be a bike parade for the kids. Our two youngest children were going on the trip and we couldn’t wait for them to participate in the parade. We decorated our 2 year old’s small ride on toy and our 6 month old’s stroller. We had an AWESOME time.

Staying at the Lafayette KOA over the 4th of July weekend was one of the best vacations we have been on. We had the so much fun and we never even left the park!

Of all the koa’s we have visited, our favorite is the Herkimer KOA in Herkimer, New York. It is so beautiful and well maintained and the Herkimer Diamond Mines across the street are very unique. The cleanest KOA we have seen.

I really enjoyed the KOA near Shenandoah and Luray, VA. We went to Luray Caverns, and I enjoyed a leisurely float in a tube down the Shenandoah River. In my head the song “Oh Shenandoah” kept playing ! It was so beautiful and peaceful, I was almost in tears. Thanks KOA- the bathrooms were much cleaner than my bathrooms at home 🙂

I like staying at the KOA’s cuz they have so many nice and friendly campers and staff no matter where you go to stay. They have things to do for the young and the old or if thats not your bag you can just relax and enjoy the settings from where ever it might be..

For years we made the trek up to North Carolina with our two children to stay for a week at the Cherokee, NC KOA. Years have passed and we now have 5 grandchildren. This Christmas our gift to the grandchildren and our childern was a weeks vacation to the KOA. Here we come Cherokee! Batten down the hatches cause the whole clan will be there this June to enjoy the view from our children’s eyes watching their children do the same things they did with us years ago! Memories are what make the world special!
